why i trust the Salvation Army
Monday 21st Jul 2025Hey, you have reservations about donating to the Salvos because you've read online they're problematic? I understand your fears, but I used to work for the Salvos in community services and case management and I know very well that they're a great organisation, honestly. They're consistently rated one of the best and most trustworthy charities in Australia, with one of the lowest administration fees taken of all Aussie charities (more than 90% of all money raised goes straight back out supporting the community), and the money raised locally stays local. They're the largest provider of support for unhoused people in Australia, and are on the frontlines supporting Aussies in need during disasters of every kind. And yes, that support is provided to all in need without question or discrimination.
I've read the same horror stories you have about how the individuals from the Salvos have treated some vulnerable people poorly, but I know that's not the standard and it's for sure not the policy of the organisation itself - in fact, half the folks I worked with at the Salvation Army Darwin Corps were out and proud LGBTQIA+ people, including Captain Kris Halliday, our senior supervisor. The Salvos do really good work right here in Darwin every single day, rain or shine, and I feel good about helping to raise money for them.
I'm Riding for Community & Cause in United We Ride
Wednesday 16th Jul 2025 On Saturday the 6th of September 2025, I'm taking part in United We Ride, a national motorcycle event brought together by Harley-Davidson Australia & New Zealand in support of The Salvation Army. This isn’t just any ride — it’s a powerful show of unity, passion, and purpose as dealerships and riders roll out at the same time across Australia and New Zealand to raise vital funds for those doing it tough. The Salvation Army provides crucial support to people in need — from emergency relief to homelessness services, domestic violence support, financial counselling, youth programs and so much more. Their work helps transform lives in local communities, and this ride is our way of backing them. So before I fire up the engine and hit the road, I’m asking for your support. Please donate what you can and help us raise awareness and funds for those who need it most. Every dollar makes a difference. Together, we ride with purpose. Together, United We Ride.My Sponsors
